Do we go for second opinions?
Many decisions that we make in our lives, lead us to look for at least one more opinion.
When we are in a restaurant, we ask the waiter for his opinion. If I'm buying something to wear and my wife is not around, I would need to look for eye contact from anybody for a second opinion. In this case, a word from a fashionable lady would be the best . Not much money involved, right?
When we bought our last big TV for example. We did our homework. We checked the online prices and looked at the endless junk paper mail offers that never stop coming, talked to friends that had the latest TV and so on. Most of us would visit more than one store, and hopefully we remember that our favorite store with gadgets will match or even beat any price. In this second example, there is more money involved; of course we would ask for a second opinion.
We can be married to a particular brand and we would not look for a second opinion, but I bet you would think and seek that second opinion before spending your hard earned money.
Not to mention when health is involved. In this case a loved one would make us look for a second or third opinion, if we were too afraid of the answer we may hear.
When legal advice is needed, we look for someone to confirm something that we were already told. We look for that second opinion.
Any opinions on the home price? The CMA is made, but the home is not yet listed. As a Realtor, we ask and talk with our real estate broker.
The broker is the one who has been in the real estate industry a long time and he decided to have his own shop because he has more than enough experience.
Well, the real estate broker agreed on the price, or not. Let's next ask my favorite real estate pro, right? and so on.
I consider my self a very nice, polite, professional. Even if much younger or less experienced, there is always a team behind me to help make the best decision. A real estate lawyer or two, mortgage broker, co-workers, etc. Many, many professionals from the same industry are more than happy to share their knowledge and give the third opinion.
Someone with a 'know it all' syndrome prompted me to write this post. He or she thought that I had no-one to talk to...
My two virtual cents of a second opinion.
